Porsche Secrets – Porsche 911 SC Rally

In the next installment of the Porsche Secrets series, the automaker presented the 911 SC rally special. Dieter Landenberger , the already well-known head of the car company's archive from earlier episodes, explains that the 911 is one of the most successful cars in motorsport, not only on circuits, but also on unpaved roads. Porsche won the famous Dakar Rally twice and in 1970 again celebrated victory in the Brand Rally Cup (predecessor of today's World Rally Championship). Porsche has been competing in rallies since the 1960s, but this particular car is from the grueling East African Safari Rally held in 1978. The only difference between a racing 911 and a stock one was modified shock absorbers and retrofitted chassis protection. The car led the race for a long time, but then damaged the rear shock absorber with a large rock. Nevertheless, Vic Preston Jr. fought him for second place overall in this race.
