Mercedes revealed the engine of the new AMG GT coupe

The new Mercedes-AMG GT is already slowly getting ready to properly flood Ferrari, Porsche or Audi. Even before the three- pointed star reveals the final appearance of the body, it was the turn of what we will find in the guts of the car – i.e. the new twin-turbo V8 .

The 4-liter Borg Warner twin-turbocharged V8 unit produces 510 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and a peak torque of 650 Nm between 1,750-4,750 rpm. Compliance with the Euro 6 emission standard is a matter of course.

The dry weight of the engine codenamed M178 is only 209 kg. The unit received light pistons, double camshafts or cylinder heads equipped with a zincorium alloy to optimize temperature and thermal conductivity . The walls of the cylinders are covered with a thin layer of nanocrystals that reduce friction. The eight-cylinder also does not use the classic oil sump, which has been replaced by a dry sump.

The same engine can also be found under the hood of the upcoming C 63 AMG family , which will again include a sedan, a station wagon, a coupe and, now, a convertible. However, it will have its premiere in Paris in the AMG GT, which will go on sale in March next year.
