Mazda roadster facelift

Not long ago, Mazda announced cooperation with the Italian concern Fiat on a new joint roadster, which will bear both the Mazda and Alfa Romeo badges. The production of this model is planned for 2015. And why such a start? Because with this, the automaker put an end to all speculation about the new generation of the MX-5 model.

Instead, we will see a facelift for the 2013 model year. It will be in the spirit of the Kodo design direction, which we can see, for example, on the CX-5 model. The small convertible also borrows Skyactiv technology from the CX-5 to ensure compliance with emission standards and reduce fuel consumption.

Under the hood, we can look forward to petrol units with a volume of 1.8 and 2.0 liters with outputs of 126 and 160 horses. We'd really like to see the 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol from the MX-5 GT concept unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in a facelifted model. It provides 104 horsepower per liter of volume, so its output is 208 horsepower.

Doesn't this kind of life extension of a 7-year-old model, which will be with us for at least another 3 years, seem unnecessary to you? We can only hope that the successor is at least as fun as the MX-5.
