Subaru is planning the return of the big coupe

In the 1990s, Subaru had a large SVX coupe in its lineup , which was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and had a six-cylinder boxer engine under its hood. According to foreign sources, a similarly designed car is now to return to Subaru's offer, but it will no longer be a pure gasoline engine.

Australia's Motoring magazine quotes a source close to the automaker as saying, "The SVX will return with a six-cylinder boxer engine and an electric motor under the hood." If it does happen, the automaker's record sales will play a part, as will pressure from American dealers who are asking for the automaker a large coupe increasing the prestige of the brand and also the number of potential customers when there is a demand for a similar car in the American market.

The design should reflect Subaru's future style, presented primarily with the Viziv and Viziv 2 concepts . Motoring also informs that instead of the classic coupe, we will see the popular shooting brak today.

Under the hood we find the modular Subaru Global Platform (SGP), which will first appear with the new Tribeca sometime in 2016. The new SVX will then be introduced a few months later and become the automaker's new flagship .

Of course, there will be four-wheel drive, which will transmit the power of the plug-in hybrid system to the road. It will consist of a 3.3-liter six-cylinder boxer engine and an electric motor, originally from Lexus . Subaru borrows technology from this, because it cannot create a powerful system at an affordable price on its own. The total output should be around 380 horsepower, and one of the main competitors will be the Tesla Model S.
