Mazda introduced a new diesel for the Model 2

The arrival of the new Mazda 2 (Demio in Japan) is imminent. Its premiere is expected at the Paris Motor Show in October , where the new four-cylinder Skyactiv-D diesel engine , used for the first time in the new Mazda 2, will also be presented to the public for the first time.

The unit has a volume of 1497 cm3 , its output is 105 hp at 4000 rpm and a maximum torque of 250 Nm between 1500 – 2500 rpm. Of course, the engine meets the Euro 6 emission standard and, like other Skyactiv units, it has a low compression ratio of 14.8:1 .

The biggest advantage over the competition is the variable geometry of the turbocharger blades with a rotary sensor and a water-cooled intercooler built into the intake manifold. This will increase the efficiency of the turbocharger and improve acceleration. The Japanese automaker's engineers managed to reduce mechanical resistance and improve the combustion efficiency of the unit by installing water-operated valves and using water jackets on gaps in the cooling system.

The new Mazda Demio 1.5 Skyactiv-D is set to become the most economical diesel car in its segment, measured by the Japanese JC08 methodology . So let's see if the European Mazda 2 will also be among the prize winners.
