Mazda is preparing a luxury small hatchback

The new generation Mazda2 , foreshadowed by the Hazumi concept , is already heading to the final phase of testing and we will see it in showrooms at the end of this year or the beginning of next year. According to the latest news, we will see not only a classic hatchback , but also a sports version and, above all, a competitor to the Mini or Citroën DS .

However, the luxury hatchback of the B segment will not be anything new for Mazda. Since 2004, it has offered the Verisa model in Japan, which is derived from the current generation Mazda2. The novelty should become the successor of this model, but unlike it, it will be offered worldwide and will be slightly smaller to better compete with European models.

According to an unnamed Japanese Mazda dealer, such a car is already ready and is just waiting for its launch. However, it is not known when that will happen. Likewise, the premiere date of the next new addition to the Model 2 family, a sports version with the likely MPS designation, is not yet known. The future Mini Cooper S competitor will get a 2.2 SkyActive-D four-cylinder petrol engine under the hood.
