PSA is preparing radical changes

For the last time in 1991 , American buyers could officially buy a new Peugeot . Back then, it was the 405 model , and America especially fell in love with the sporty version of the Mi16. After more than two decades since the automaker's withdrawal from the US, speculation is beginning again about its return. And she doesn't have to be alone, because together with Peugeot , Citroën and DS will also go overseas.

At least that's the plan of PSA boss Carlos Tavares , which is called Back in the Race . Tavares' goal is to return the concern to profit in 2016. After several years of losses, it is a bold plan indeed.

But it is the return to the USA that will help, before which the concern must meet several goals . First of all, the portfolios of all three brands – i.e. Peugeot, Citroën and DS – must be sufficiently differentiated . Then reduce the number of models from the current 45 to 26 , which is reportedly already being worked on. Furthermore, it is necessary to ensure the growth of profitability worldwide, similar to how Peugeot succeeds in China with specially developed models, and finally to modernize the whole company in order to achieve greater work efficiency. This is especially true for factories in France.

All these goals are to be met by the brand in 2017 or 2018 . By 2020, PSA wants to triple production in China together with its partner Dongfeng. At the same time, the DS brand will become an independent car company, not only in China.
