Is Dacia preparing an urban hatchback?

The 1990s were groundbreaking for the automotive industry in many ways and brought projects that are now forgotten . One such was the urban Dacia Lăstun , or 500 if you prefer, with a half-liter two-cylinder gasoline engine. In the near future, we could expect a kind of spiritual successor of this urban zoom .

But before we talk more about it, I will at least briefly describe the already mentioned Lăstun model . Only 2950 mm long hatchback was produced between 1988-1991 in the Romanian city of Timişoara. Under its hood was the already mentioned two-cylinder gasoline engine with a volume of 0.5 liters with an output of 23 horsepower and a torque of 34.5 Nm. The front wheels were driven via a four-speed manual, with which the car reached a speed of 106 km/h and consumption of 3.3 l/100 km. Production stopped at 6,532 units produced .

The modern interpretation of the urban Dacia should be more widespread and mainly will receive the technology already used in the new Twingo , which in turn shares it with the Smart ForTwo. The news came from the German AutoBild , which further claims that the Dacia will be a very truncated version of the new Twingo, but will still offer complete safety equipment for a price of around 5,000 euros (approx. 137,000 CZK).
