Volkswagen presents a plug-in hybrid version of the Golf

The Volkswagen Golf is no longer just one of the best-selling, but probably one of the most versatile cars in the world . The range of bodies includes hatchbacks, station wagons and MPVs, while under the hood there can be gasoline, diesel, electric motors and, now, plug-in hybrids .

In addition, the Golf GTE is not just an ordinary plug-in hybrid Golf, but complements the gasoline GTI and diesel GTD in the range of sports models. Under its hood we find a turbocharged four-cylinder 1.4 TSI with a power of 150 hp and an electric motor with a power of 102 hp. In combined mode, the GTE has a power of 204 hp and a maximum torque of 349 Nm. The front wheels are driven via a six-speed DSG automatic transmission .

In terms of dynamics, Volkswagen talks about acceleration to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds and a maximum speed of 217 km/h. However, if you drive only on electricity, the GTE will drive at a maximum of 130 km/h for a period of 50 km . After connecting a conventional internal combustion engine, the range will increase to 940 km. The automaker also states that consumption is only 1.8 liters per 100 km, and emissions are 35 g CO2/km. The batteries are liquid-cooled lithium-ion and have a capacity of 8.8 kWh .

In terms of appearance, the GTE combines elements known from the purely electric e-Golf and the sporty GTI model. You can find it, for example, in the line stretching from the front headlights over the entire length of the mask. However, it is ecologically colored blue. The headlights are equipped with LEDs , the front bumper is also new. The wheels are 16 inches, but they can be an inch or two more for an extra charge.

The interior features checkered upholstery , typical of GTI models. Similar to the outside, here too, however, it is tuned to ecological blue. New is the Composition Media radio with a 6.5-inch touch screen, which can be exchanged for an additional fee for the Discover Pro system with navigation, a locator for the nearest charging station and a 360-degree camera system around the vehicle. In addition, there is a monitor for monitoring the range , a "monitor" of the currently used type of drive or the e-manager function, which offers the possibility to choose from three charging times.
