Volkswagen is preparing to launch a more powerful version of the Golf R

The extreme Evo version of the already very fast Golf R will not keep you waiting long. Volkswagen will introduce it in a few months in Beijing and, in addition to the new design, it will also offer a revised powertrain and lower weight.

The standard 300 horsepower of the current variant will not be enough, and as the British magazine Autocar revealed, the German automaker plans to increase the performance of the turbocharged two-liter EA888 to around 370 horsepower. He wants to achieve this primarily by changing the cylinder heads and a new intake manifold.

Behind the development of the more powerful unit is Fritz Eichler , the man who designed the twin-turbocharged four-cylinder for Mercedes, used in the A 45 AMG, CLA 45 AMG and GLA 45 AMG models, among others crowned with the title of the most powerful production four-cylinder in the world .

The use of the six -speed DSG dual -clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive with the help of a Haldex inter-axle clutch will be retained. On the contrary, the entire car will go through a defatting peel – the rear seats will disappear, replaced by a protective cage, and selected body panels will be made of carbon. As a result, the weight is below 1400 kg.
