In terms of appearance, the novelty is based on the recently introduced Subaru WRX , but received a more prominent body kit with a giant wing on the trunk lid. Of course, there is a front spoiler and a rear diffuser with four exhaust tips. LEDs are standard in the lights at both ends of the body. An aluminum front hood was installed to reduce weight and the rest of the car was stiffened. Naturally, the chassis has also received extensive modifications, which is now stronger and more capable.
The Subaru WRX STI is powered by a traditional 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine that is turbocharged and equipped with a charge air intercooler . The unit delivers 305 hp at 6,000 rpm and 393 Nm at 4,000 rpm . The only transmission used is a redesigned six-speed manual , for which we praise Subaru . The powertrain includes the Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) system, which adjusts throttle and engine response in Intelligent , Sport and Sport Sharp modes. In addition, the famous Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (SAWD) is equipped with a Driver Controlled Center Differential (DCCD), which is also adjustable in several modes. And to make the adjustment options not enough, the driver will also be able to customize the traction control in VDC Normal , Traction and Off modes. In the first two, torque redistribution is active.
According to the brand's official press release, a little more space has also been added to the novelty, especially for the knees of the rear passengers by up to 5 centimeters , and the luggage compartment has grown to 340 liters compared to its predecessor. The driver was treated to a new fully adjustable multifunction steering wheel with a flat bottom , a 3.5-inch information LCD display in the instrument panel and a 4.3-inch LCD display on top of the dashboard. The basic equipment is dual air conditioning, heated front seats and exterior mirrors, an audio system with Bluetooth, aux-in, USB and six speakers, and many other elements. For an additional fee, a navigation system with a 6.1-inch LCD touch screen, a Harmann/Kardon premium audio system , a sunroof and much more is available.
When entering the markets, Subaru will first offer the WRX STI Launch Edition , which is probably the most interesting version for all of us. It will get WB Blue paint and gold alloy BBS wheels , a combination that everyone loves. The interior will also be well equipped and with special decor. The only flaw in the beauty of this version is the fact that it will be produced in only 1,000 pieces .
Another specialty is the derived circuit version of the novelty, which will take part in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring endurance race in June this year. It will be Subaru 's seventh participation in a row and it will be fighting for its third championship in the SP3T class . Toshihiro Yoshida , Kouta Sasaki and two yet to be determined European riders will appear behind the wheel.
