The Opel Adam may make its way to the US under the Buick brand

The small, stylish Opel Adam was developed from the very beginning as a competitor to the MINI and Fiat 500 . As this pair is also available in the US, General Motors is thinking about importing the Adam . However, Opel does not officially appear on the North American market, it would be under the Buick brand.

A European Opel model in the American Buick range ? This is not as strange as it might seem at first glance. Both automakers belong to the GM concern and already share several models. Namely, these are the Opel Mokka , which American customers can buy as the Buick Encore , and the Opel Insignia , aka the Buick Regal . Taking over the Adam model would be an extension of the already existing cooperation.

The only problem is that the tiny Opel isn't currently ready to meet US regulations. If it looks to the USA, then only after significant modernization, or only in its possible next generation. The GM management admits that the possibility of importing the Adam model should have been considered during its development. In the future, he intends to multiply the mutual cooperation of the Buick and Opel brands so that one model can be offered under both without the need for expensive additional modifications.

The Opel Adam is not doing quite as well as originally expected on the European market, so its import to the USA could be a form of salvation. However, if General Motors management gives the order, American customers will not see a small Buick for many years.
