After the recently tested electric Peugeot 208, here we have another representative from the Peugeot portfolio, which boasts a fully electric drivetrain.
The announced car was the e-2008 model, i.e. a handsome and trendy compact SUV, which is intended mainly for the urban jungle.
The 2008 model, like its smaller sibling, is equipped with the CMP (Common Modular Platform) chassis platform, which allows this car to be equipped with both a classic internal combustion engine and a purely electric powertrain.
Exterior
The all-electric 2008 is not significantly different from the version with a traditional drivetrain. However, we can find a few changes on the car, and the most significant one certainly belongs to the very concept of the front mask. You can safely recognize the electric version by the plaque with the letter e , which is located on the front fenders and on the trunk lid.
The exterior design of the Peugeot 2008 has a higher and more robust body structure, which clearly shows its shape belonging to SUVs of the Peugeot brand.
The front part will offer a typical concept, which is inspired by the car from which 2008 is based, i.e. the 208 model. Of course, there is a voluminous front mask and Full LED headlights with the now typical "three claws" design. For the fully electric version, let's note the front mask, its color matches the color of the car, and the division then creates a very elegant spatial effect, which focuses your attention on its center, where the car company's logo is located.
The robust side profile has a rising line that forms the lower part of the side glazing. Thanks to this detail, the car is quite dynamic and, in addition, it enhances the power of the rear part. It is dominated by a rather prominent horizontal line with integrated taillights, which again bear a typical lighting signature.
The electrification of the Peugeot 2008 does not bring any significant changes to the external appearance, and it is still a very handsome and imaginative compact SUV.
Interior
Similar to the exterior, there are no major changes in the interior of the electric version.
The dashboard itself continues to have clear horizontal proportions and its central motif is the on-board infotainment display, which offers a diagonal of 5, 7 and 10″. The display, through which many of the car's functions are controlled, then has a fairly familiar environment and graphics. Its placement in the dashboard is distinctive, clearly oriented towards the driver and ergonomically well-functioning.
As part of the electric version, the display environment of the on-board infotainment is expanded to include an electric drive assistant, which informs you about the energy flow, current and long-term consumption, or the charging status.
Under the on-board infotainment display itself, there are both purely touch and mechanical controls. Their centralization and fairly discreet treatment frees up space for other elements on the dashboard, such as a flip-up box that has space for your mobile phone. The door of the box practically tilts towards you to a horizontal position, after it is tilted, the size of the storage space increases pleasantly. On the sides of this box there are ports for classic USB and USB-C.
The instrument panel in front of the driver is traditionally raised above the small and flattened multifunction steering wheel in the I-Cockpit principle. However, Peugeot also gave the new 2008 a chapel that has a 3D graphic treatise. Information about the car and driving is then displayed in two levels according to importance and priority. You can personalize the displayed data as you wish.
The interior size is based on the width dimensions of the 208 model, so expect less space here. The dimensions of the interior in the longitudinal direction are significantly better thanks to the larger wheelbase. This increase will be appreciated mainly by the crew in the rear positions, and it also gained luggage space.
The luggage compartment of the electric 2008 will offer a respectable and unchanged compared to the classic version of 434 liters of volume. Furthermore, a practical double bottom and a pleasantly raised loading edge.
Electric propulsion system
The Peugeot e-2008 has an electric motor with a power equal to 100 kW and a torque of up to 260 Nm. The electric motor driving only the front axle then cooperates with a battery with a capacity of 50 kWh (only 45 kWh can be used).
The range of the electric 2008 given by the automaker is 310 km, and the combined consumption should be around 17.7 kWh / 100 km. I am testing the electric 2008 in a period that is not usually to my liking for electric cars. A fully charged car thus reports a range of around 285 km in the winter, and the average consumption during the weekly test stabilized at 22 kWh / 100 km.
However, a range of less than 300 km, even in the winter season, is a decent figure, which does not force you to constantly recharge when commuting to work, for example. Charging the car once a week can thus become a quite comfortable reality.
In city traffic, the electric 2008 pampers you with a quiet and comfortable driving performance. 100 kW of power and 260 Nm of torque also give the car very decent dynamics. The urban environment is ideal for the operation of an electric car, whether it is possible columns or a certain frequency of places that are suitable for recuperation. Here, the electric car is economical and ideal for the city, at the same time emission-free.
As soon as you go "outside the city", it becomes more interesting and noticeably more adventurous if the highways become part of your travels. I already noticed this with the recently tested e-208 , and the e-2008 only confirmed it. As part of the freeway pace, the consumption rises quite noticeably and, above all, the kilometers of indicated range start to diverge significantly from those actually driven. Therefore, it is always better to rely on a charging station for planned longer journeys.
The Peugeot e-2008 already has traditional driving modes available, the SPORT mode compared to the NORMAL mode lets the 100 kW of power do the talking, the car reacts more intensively to the gas pedal and the effectiveness of the power steering is also changed for a stiffer steering feel. ECO mode, on the other hand, significantly "dulls" the engine and also affects the performance of the air conditioning, all in favor of a longer range.
In the case of electric versions, the classic automatic transmission selector is supplemented with position "B" in which the car brakes and recovers at the same time.
After you get used to the operation of the car in the "B" position, you can in certain situations quite comfortably and freely "brake" just by moving the selector to this position, without the need to primarily step on the brake pedal.
The Peugeot e-2008 is equipped with a CCS – Type 2 socket, which enables not only standard alternating current charging, but also direct current charging with a maximum fast charger output of up to 100 kW. At this power, the battery will be charged to 80% in about 30 minutes.
The car is also equipped with a certain thermoregulation of the battery, which can automatically cool or heat it. We also have a three-phase on-board charger with a power of 11 kW, which allows us to use the potential of the three-phase distribution network. The 11 kW WallBox thus charges the car (0-100%) in 5 hours. If you are going to charge the e-2008 from a home socket, count on 30 hours.
In conclusion
The fully electric Peugeot e-2008 is always available with a 100 kW electric motor and a 50 kWh battery. So you can only choose the level of equipment of the car, the basic e-ALLURE starts at a promotional price of CZK 875,000 including VAT. Other equipment levels are e-ALLURE PACK, e-GT and e-GT PACK. You can purchase the last highest equipment level as part of the promotional price from CZK 965,000 including VAT.
Peugeot charges quite decently for its fully electrified models, on the other hand, compared to its competition, it is by no means extreme. His electric cars simply work and offer a decent range. Electrification did not take anything away from the 2008 model's pleasant and dynamic exterior design, which is supported by an imaginative and well-crafted interior.
