During almost fifty years of continuous production, the Ford Mustang has sold over nine million units of this car, which represents the living legend of American pony cars. All this is now followed by the next generation, built from the ground up . Does it have hope for continued success?
The importance of the model was summed up by Ford's vice president of development , Raj Nair : "The Mustang is definitely much more than just a car – it is the heart and soul of the Ford brand." It is therefore not surprising that the launch of the new generation took place simultaneously in six countries on four continents.
In terms of appearance, the novelty is clearly identifiable as a Mustang , yet it is the most modern-looking current Ford . Compared to the previous generation, the car is lower, wider and looks much more aggressive. This does not change in the case of the Convertible version, whose canvas roof has been designed so as not to disturb the profile in the extended or retracted state. In addition, it now dampens noise better, thanks to which owners will experience greater comfort in the spacious cabin . The instrument panel was inspired by shapes and design in aviation and stands out with good ergonomics. The official press release of Ford does not mention the volume of the trunk, it only says that it has grown and can fit two golf bags without any problems.
The new Mustang will be powered by three engines, two of which we already know from the past and one of which is completely new. The basis is a modified atmospheric V6 with a volume of 3.7 liters , an output of 300 horsepower and a torque of 366Nm . The novelty is a turbocharged in-line four-cylinder with a volume of 2.3 liters from the modern EcoBoost family. It offers a power of over 305 horsepower and a torque of 407Nm combined with unrivaled low consumption and emissions. The highlight of the offer is the Mustang GT with a modernized atmospheric V8 with a volume of 5.0 liters , an output of 420 horsepower and a torque of 529Nm . The maximum speed of this version is 250 km/h .
There are two transmissions on offer – a precise manual with short distances from Getrag or a six-speed Select-Shift automatic with the option of shifting paddles on the steering wheel. The new Mustang also received a completely redesigned chassis, the construction of which is the most advanced in the segment. The modern rear axle with independent suspension , which completely surpasses the competition, speaks for itself. The brake system is then more powerful than in the past and offers a choice of three variants . In addition, the driver can change the settings of the power steering, electronic stability control and the response of the engine and transmission by selecting driving modes . The GT version will be equipped with Launch Control as standard.
Owners can then look forward to equipment such as intelligent access to the car Inteligent Acces and the MyKey function, the SYNC system, optional Track Apps , MyColor alarm clocks, the Shaker Pro audio system, blind spot monitoring or adaptive Cruise Control and much more.
Official pricing and equipment list for each version of the Mustang will be announced at a later date, as well as market entry dates. Everything will start the following year, while selected markets in Europe and Asia will officially see it for the first time.
