Volkswagen introduced the Twin-Up, which uses technology from the XL1 model

The revolutionary Volkswagen XL1 is certainly not for everyone, moreover, it will only be provided to private owners in the form of a lease . However, fortunately, his revolutionary technology will not remain unused – the Volkswagen Twin-Up borrowed the diesel-electric system .

This is the umpteenth version of the popular car from the workshops of the Wolfsburg car company. Under the hood, the Twin-Up has a two-cylinder diesel engine with a volume of 0.8 liters with an output of 48 hp and a torque of 119 Nm, which, like the XL1 , is supported by an electric motor . In the Twin-Up, however, it has 21 hp more power (48 hp in total) and the batteries from which the model takes energy have a capacity of 8.6 kWh (the XL1 has a capacity of only 5.5 kWh). The diesel tank was also increased to 33 liters.

The total power of 75 hp and torque of 214 Nm is transmitted to the front wheels by a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This allows the 1205 kg model to accelerate to 100 km/h in 15.7 seconds, but the maximum speed is limited to 140 km/h (in electric mode to 125.5 km/h). However, the majority of potential buyers will still be most interested in consumption – it is 1.1 l/100 km in combined driving mode, and CO2 emissions per 1 km reach the limit of 27 g. Volkswagen does not state the diesel range, but you can drive 50 km on pure electricity .
