The new generation of the Mercedes C-Class , a mid-range model with a three-pointed star on the hood , is just around the corner. Although the first contact with the car will take place at the January auto show in Detroit , the German automaker is already inviting you to sit behind the wheel and adds some information about the technology .
The interior of the new "céček", photos of which the automaker released today, follows on from the brand's other models, especially the A and CLA classes . A seven-inch screen appears as standard on the top of the center console, which can be replaced by a 1.4-inch larger display. Control will take place using the touchpad, which is located on the central tunnel. However, electronic games on board definitely do not end there – in addition to a larger screen, you can also pay extra for a head-up display .
The air conditioning system , which uses GPS data to detect tunnels, is innovative. In them, the air circulation is automatically closed and thus unwanted dirt or dust does not get into the interior. The passenger seat will use an automatic sensor that automatically blocks the airbag when a child seat is detected.
The MRA platform will be hidden under the body , the design of which will be strongly inspired by the S-class limousine and the smaller E-class. Thanks to it, the weight of the new model will drop by up to 100 kg , depending on the version. At the same time, the novelty will grow by about 40 mm in length and by 90 mm in the wheelbase. This clearly distinguishes the W205 model from the smaller CLA.
A variety of four- and six-cylinder engines will appear under the hood. The basic unit will be the 1.6 and 2.0 M274 series four-cylinder petrol engines, followed by the OM651 series 2.0 CDI and 2.2 CDI four-cylinder diesels , which will easily meet the Euro 6 emission standard. The six-cylinder will be represented by a 3.5 liter atmospheric model and its turbocharged sibling with a volume of three liters , both of the M276 series. Later, the six-cylinder diesel of the OM642 series with a volume of three liters and, of course, a hybrid model will appear on the market. However, the highlight of the entire C-Class range will be the AMG version , which will offer a turbocharged eight-cylinder engine with an output of approximately 532 horsepower.
Most engines will work with rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission as standard. However, Mercedes will of course also offer 4Matic all-wheel drive and 7G Tronic and 9G Tronic automatics. Depending on the chosen engine, the Stuttgart automaker intends to offer Airmatic air suspension , which will offer Comfort, ECO, Sport and Sport Plus modes.
As we mentioned in the introduction, the C-class codenamed W205 will arrive in Detroit next year. In addition to the classic sedan, we can also expect a station wagon and a SportCoupé , which, despite the name, will not be a classic "three-door" but a car in the style of the Audi A5 Sportback – i.e. a modern four-door coupe. A big question mark still hangs over the open option .
