Will the new Mazda3 MPS be a quad?

The new generation of the Mazda3 MPS has not yet been confirmed, but there is already active speculation as to what technology it will receive . In July, the first renderings appeared and information that only 200 horses would be under the hood. Now the Australian magazine Drive managed to find out that the 3 MPS with all-wheel drive could be introduced for the first time!

This would help Mazda especially in the fight against other Japanese competitors – Subaru WRX STI and Mitsubishi Lance Evo – which offer all-wheel drive. At the same time, it would help solve the biggest shortcoming of the last generation 3 MPS – the problems of transferring 260 hp on the road. A four-wheel drive would improve traction, stability and thus also the car's driving performance. After all, it wasn't that long ago that the brand's larger all-wheel-drive Mazda6 MPS was on offer.

"From a technical point of view (the Mazda3 shares some chassis components with the Mazda CX-5), it is not difficult to build all-wheel drive into the model," said deputy project manager Takeo Mariuchi about the four-wheel drive. However, he was not very forthcoming: "We have many questions about MPS, but we have to pay attention to the market's requirements."
