Caterham AeroSeven Concept – A vision of the near future

The British sports brand Caterham is best known for its participation in Formula One and the Seven road model , which refers to the Lotus of the same name. Today, the automaker presented the AeroSeven concept at a special event in Singapore, which represents not only the future of the Seven model, but also the entire brand as such.

Caterham is set to grow and massively modernize its image. The new generation of the Seven model, foreshadowed by the just introduced AeroSeven concept , is helping with this. It combines the best of the brand's road history and participation in the Formula 1 series.

The design of the concept was completely designed by the automaker itself, and its aerodynamics were tested in the wind tunnel, and the body stiffness and chassis capability were tested on the race track. At first glance, this is a perfect departure from the current version of the Seven model, which is the result of Caterham 's effort to aim for the future and find its own visual identity.

The interior is a traditional two-seater with a newly designed structure to protect passengers in the event of a rollover. The screen of the GDU unit in the middle of the dashboard is also completely new. It displays all important data such as car speed, revs, chassis settings, operating fluid levels and more in an interesting 3D look developed by Caterham . On the sports steering wheel we can find the driving mode selector, where the basic setting is Race , optional Road , speed limiter when driving in the pit lane and others.

The AeroSeven concept is powered by a slightly modified two-liter Ford Duratorq petrol unit , which meets Euro 6 emission standards and produces 240 horsepower , while the maximum revolutions are 8,500 per minute . The car accelerates from rest to 100 km/h in less than four seconds . The same engine will initially get a production form, with others to follow over time. The conceptual AeroSeven has a six-speed manual , through which the power of the engine flows to the rear wheels .

The AeroSeven's chassis features fully independent rear suspension and F1-style pushrod front suspension . Fully adjustable traction and launch control is part of the equipment, while the automaker is also considering installing race ABS from Busch . The concept uses Avon CR500 tires.

The series version of the model will be produced in November 2014 in Dartford, UK. Pricing and full technical data will be released a little earlier.
