Volkswagen's new electric cars at the IAA

The main stars of the ecological part of the Volkswagen exhibition in Frankfurt will undoubtedly be the small e-Up! and its larger sibling the e-Golf . The generally known information about both models is complemented by the first real photos of the e-Golf and new photos of the e-Up!.

And it was with the C-segment hatchback that we had the opportunity to meet before the Geneva Motor Show . However, back then it was most likely some kind of pre-production model. Either way, the final shape will be revealed in Frankfurt. And you will definitely recognize it – the front bumper, radiator grille and lights are all new. The fact that it is an electric car is also revealed by the absence of a classic exhaust.

The electric unit under the hood offers a power of 115 hp and a torque of 270 Nm. The dynamics of the electric Golf are not the worst – you will reach 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds. However, the maximum speed is limited to 140 km/h. The engine is connected to a single-speed gearbox with an integrated differential and a mechanical parking brake. What will surely interest you the most is the range. Thanks to the 24.2 kWh batteries, it has a range of around 130-190 km.

Recharging the C-segment hatchback takes about 13 hours from the normal network , when using a wall box, the time is reduced to 8 hours, and if you have a fast charger available, the batteries are charged to 80% in about 30 minutes. The weight of the e-Golf is 1510 kg, of which a full 318 kg are taken up by the batteries. Volkswagen did not set the basic price, but 100 km of you in the e-Golf, with a consumption of 12.7 kW/100 km, will cost 3.28 euros (approx. 85 CZK) in Germany.

We have officially known about the smaller e-up! since mid-March. It was then that he introduced himself to a closed group of people at an event in Wolfsburg. Its parameters have hardly changed since then – the electric motor, located under the floor, has a power of 82 hp, a maximum torque of 210 Nm and is connected to a single-speed gearbox. Acceleration to 100 km/h takes 12.4 seconds and the speedometer needle stops at 130 km/h. Lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 18.7 kWh are located under the floor and allow the electric Up! to have a range of between 120-160 km.

A little e-up! it works in three driving modes – standard , Eco and Eco+ . When Eco mode is activated, the electronics will reduce the engine output to 67 hp, adjust the operation of the air conditioning and also the response to the gas pedal. In Eco+ mode, the output is even reduced to 54 hp and the air conditioning is automatically switched off. The result of these efforts is a longer range .

Charging from a conventional socket (230 V) takes about 9 hours, from a wall box about 6 hours, and from a fast charger it takes exactly 30 minutes to charge to 80% capacity. The weight of the e-Up! has increased to 1139 kg, of which 230 kg are taken up by the batteries. The basic price of the electric city model is 26,900 euros (approx. 695,000 CZK), 100 km of driving costs 3.02 euros (approx. 78 CZK).
