The mysterious concept that Volkswagen announced in August has revealed its face. As expected, this is the successor to the bloated Golf with the designation Plus. A bit of a surprise, however, is the new model name, which is Golf Sportsvan .
A compact minivan , as Volkswagen itself describes this car, is still only a concept. However, almost no one doubts that it will go into production in this form. As with the Plus, the Sportsvan is quite different in appearance from the base model. We register new front and rear lights, mask and bumpers.
The shape of the body corresponds to its predecessor, compared to which it is 134 mm longer . Compared to the classic Golf the seventh generation Sportsvan is 83 mm longer, 126 mm higher and 8 mm wider. The wheelbase grew by 48 mm. With an easy calculation, the dimensions of the Sportsvan can be determined – length 4338 m, width 1807 mm, height 1578 mm and wheelbase 2685 mm.
Thanks to the larger dimensions, the basic volume of the luggage has grown to 498 liters , which is 74 liters more compared to its predecessor. The rear bench , adjustable by 180 mm, is split in a 60:40 ratio and offers a trunk of up to 1,512 liters when folded. The interior design itself is such a mixture of several models, but as a whole it looks elegant.
Six engines will appear under the hood of the serial version – gasoline units will offer 85, 110, 125 and 150 hp, diesel 110 or 150 hp. All engines will have a stop-start system as standard and will meet the Euro 6 emission standard . As an example, the automaker chose the 1.6 TDI BlueMotion diesel unit with 110 horsepower, which consumes only 3.7 l/100 km and emits 95 g of CO 2 /km into the air. This makes it the most economical compact minivan on the market.
The basic equipment of the new Sportsvan will include an electronic differential lock XDS+ , air conditioning, multi-collision brake, seven airbags, an electronic parking brake, a five-inch screen on the center console, a variable trunk floor and a luggage compartment cover. In the list of optional extras, for example, blind spot monitoring Blind Spot Monitor , Rear Traffic Alert system, adaptive cruise control, DCC system or lane departure warning system will appear.
