Honda introduced the hybrid Accord

Honda Accord is not a big news for Americans or Japanese. After all, the new generation has been sold on these markets for almost a year. However, a hybrid version is new in the range of the sedan, which will probably never reach Europe.

It boasts a powertrain that can also be found in the PHEV version (plug-in hybrid version for short). It consists of a 124 kW electric motor and a 2.0 four-cylinder petrol engine . Honda refers to the hybrid unit as Sport Hybrid Intelligent Multi Mode Drive , and according to the automaker itself, the Accord Hybrid works in three modes: EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive.

In EV Drive mode, the Accord uses lithium-ion batteries of unspecified capacity to power it, which are permanently on at low speeds, where the Accord runs purely on electricity. In the Hybrid Drive mode, both drive units work together, which is especially advantageous in city traffic. In the last Engine Drive mode, the Accord uses the full power of the entire hybrid system, which is sent to the front wheels.

The appearance of the Accord Hybrid is primarily due to the blue coloring of the headlights and slats in the radiator grille. There are, of course, aerodynamic wheel covers, a decent rear spoiler or LED diodes for daytime running lights . In the interior, the trio of blue backlit displays, leather upholstery, rear parking camera or lane departure warning or frontal collision warning systems are particularly impressive.

Honda has not yet announced prices in the US, but in Japan the hybrid Accord is on sale for the equivalent of $38,000 (approx. CZK 745,000), which is $7,000 (approx. CZK 137,000) more than the price of its main rival from the Toyota stable – the model Camry Hybrid.
