You will only be able to rent the Volkswagen XL1

Admit it yourself – who wouldn't want a small, nimble car with a consumption of around one liter of fuel per 100 kilometers? In its essence, no one would despise it, provided that it had an adequate base price.

Volkswagen came up with the idea of producing something similar years ago. The futuristic-looking two-seater XL1 was presented live in its most recent form in Geneva in March. It already looked like it would find its way to Czech garages in the coming months. However, nothing is as simple as it seems at first glance.

The management of Volkswagen came up with a fundamental statement these days, thanks to which the dream of an economical car for the masses has faded away for the time being. The XL1 model will first come in a series of 50 units and will only be available to customers as part of a lease. So when someone tells you that the Volkswagen XL1 standing in his garden is his, don't believe him. However, the situation can still change and the outcome is highly dependent on customer interest. If the XL1 lease goes through, full series production will begin. If not, we'll only see him on posters in the future.

And let's face it, that would be a real shame. The propulsion system combines a small two-cylinder diesel with a volume of 0.8 liters (35 kW) and an electric motor (20 kW) . The transmission is an automatic dual clutch. All this is supported by accumulators with a total capacity of 5.5 kWh, on which the car is able to travel up to 50 km. The XL1 is a plug-in hybrid, which brings a number of advantages. The volume of the fuel tank could have been reduced (in this case to only 10 liters) and you have it for free during normal daily driving. However, this does not mean that you will be a drag on traffic. With a weight of 795 kilograms, the Volkswagen XL1 can accelerate to 100 km/h in less than 13 seconds and can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h.
