The new Leon Cupra will offer higher performance than the previous Cupra R

In the world of motoring, there is also a special category of hot-hatchbacks , in which we can find really sharp and powerful models from various car manufacturers. Currently, this class includes, for example, Volkswagen Golf GTI , Ford Focus ST, Renault Mégane 265 Trophy, Opel Astra OPC or even Seat Leon Cupra . The last-named representative will soon appear in the new generation, but the first illustrations and information are already available.

For now, it is certain that the sharp version will be in three-door and five-door versions. There is also speculation about a powerful Leon ST Cupra , which would compete directly with the Ford Focus ST . Engineers from the Seat car company revealed to the British Autocar that the new generation Leon Cupra model could have a turbocharged 2.0 -liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with a capacity of 265 horsepower under the hood. This would then mean that the new Spanish hot-hatch will be closer to the competition in its segment.

The next generation of the Leon Cupra will also be built on the MQB platform , like the Volkswagen Golf GTI or the Audi S3. The aforementioned 265 horsepower will drive the front axle, on which we will also find a mechanical limited-slip differential . It is already clear that the new Leon Cupra will match the performance and other technology of the previous Leon Cupra R.

The current generation also offers a 2.0 -liter turbocharged engine, but only 240 horsepower and acceleration to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. The new Leon Cupra will have 25 more horsepower, so it will do "100" in about six seconds. We can expect the more powerful Leon Cupra R to offer a bit more power. There is talk that it should attack the 300 horse mark .

The new Seat Leon Cupra should be revealed at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2014. The price tag of the three-door Leon Cupra should be in the same range as that of the Golf GTI . We have to wait a while for more details, most likely until the premiere itself.
