Volvo says goodbye to eight cylinders

The Swedish car manufacturer Volvo has outlined its future strategy several times, but it has never been as radical as in this case. Representatives of the brand say that over time they will turn the eight-cylinder into automotive dinosaurs .

"We will create smaller, smarter, more powerful engines that will turn V8s into automotive dinosaurs," said Derek Crabb , Volvo's vice president of engine development.

“Our four-cylinders will offer more power than today's six-cylinders and lower combined fuel consumption than today's four-cylinders. In addition to all this, electrification will bring us the performance of today's eight-cylinder engines," added Crabb.

In addition, Volvo supports these statements with a strategy that in the future only counts on the offer of three- or four-cylinder units under the hood of Volvo cars. In the end, however, the question arises as to what will appear under the hood of the new generation of the large SUV XC90 , which is due to arrive in less than a year. Would one of those dinosaurs?
