America got its new Golf

The Volkswagen Golf celebrated twice at the New York Auto Show. On the one hand, it was the winning of the World Car of the Year title, and on the other hand, it was the North American premiere of the model as such. And what can Americans look forward to compared to the European Golf?

Mainly for a smaller range of engines. The basic engine for the US is a turbocharged four-cylinder 1.8 with an output of 173 hp and a torque of 250 Nm. The unit for the overseas Golf will be produced in Silau , Mexico, and will offer both a manual and an American-style automatic transmission.

The gasoline unit will be accompanied by a four-cylinder 2.0 TDI Clean Diesel with a power of 152 hp and a torque of 320 Nm. As standard, the unit is connected to a six-speed manual, for an additional fee you can choose a DSG dual-clutch automatic.

The highlight of the provisional offer will be the GTI version . Under the hood, it will offer a turbocharged 2.0 TSI four-cylinder engine with an output of around 212 horsepower. The maximum value of the torque will lie somewhere around the limit of 350 Nm. The unit, also produced in Mexico, will offer a six-speed manual as a base, with a DSG dual-clutch automatic for an extra charge. The Performance package should not be missing either.

All Golf models sold in the US will feature the XDS electronic differential lock and will be produced exclusively in Puebla, Mexico.
