Automotive design is one of the most advanced and progressive branches of industrial design and is crucial to the success of a car with customers. Dozens of new models appear on the market every year, and only slightly fewer concept cars and pre-production prototypes are presented at world motor shows. The task of the AutoDesign Awards poll , organized by AutoDesign&Styling magazine for the sixth year , is to draw attention to the most interesting of them .
An expert jury consisting of leading Czech designers, educators, publicists and other personalities from the field of design chose this year, in addition to the two absolute winners in the categories of production cars and concepts , as well as the winners of seven subcategories in the field of production cars. All major automotive innovations of the given year are automatically nominated for the poll.
The absolute winner and title of AutoDesign Awards: Best Design of the Year in the production car category this year went to Skoda Octavia . Among the concepts, the Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Disco Volante 2012 project received the most votes from the jury.
"What I especially appreciate about the new Octavia is the perfectly blended ratio of elegance and aggressiveness. It has its own face. It gives me a fresh, simple impression, and at the same time it also has several nicely and logically elaborated details and innovative solutions. For example, the part around the headlights with the recognized composition of surfaces, the rear doors, dynamic door handles, the radiator grille," evaluates the design of the new Octavia Stanislav Hanuš, chief designer of Blata and at the same time one of the judges.
"In previous years, the winners were mostly cars that offered some conceptually new solution in terms of design, but this year it's different. Skoda Octavia appealed to the jury mainly with its new, modern shape. Disco Volante , in turn, pays tribute to the famous aerodynamic models of Alfa Romeo from the 1950s, however, the design and overall concept of the concept sounds so modern that it can become a source of inspiration for many future series cars," says Radek Laube, one of the poll's organizers and editor-in-chief, of this year's winner of AutoDesign&Styling magazine.
The judges evaluate the nominated cars not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also examine all other requirements for quality design, which should be functional, innovative, original, well-made, truthful, uncondescending, sophisticated and consistent.
