Audi presented its first production plug-in hybrid

Audi has been flirting with an electric or at least a plug-in hybrid drive for a long time. Now it has finally reached the stage if any of its models with this type of drive could get on real roads .

The new A3 Sportback was selected, which will celebrate its premiere in Geneva in the most powerful and most ecological version. Don't worry just yet though, Audi says that mere mortals won't get their hands on the car just yet, and the entire first series will be for internal testing.

However, this does not prevent the comprehensive presentation of the hatchback with the name e-tron , which will offer under the hood a four-cylinder 1.4 TFSI with a capacity of 150 hp in combination with an electric motor with a capacity of 102 hp. The resulting output of the hybrid system is 204 horsepower, which is enough at rest for a maximum speed of 222 km/h and acceleration to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.

The new six-speed eS tronic transmission sends power to the front wheels. Audi says that with the drive combination, the A3 e-tron can consume just 1.5 liters of gasoline per 100 km and emits only 35 g of CO2 per kilometer. In addition to the combined drive, the hybrid A3 can also run purely on gasoline or electricity. In the latter case, however, you will drive a maximum of 50 kilometers at a maximum speed of 130 km/h.

Audi does not state the capacity of the batteries or the charging time, so we only know that it will also work from a standard socket. Visually, you can recognize the e-tron relatively easily thanks to the new front mask, modified lights and bumpers. All in the name of ecology…
