The new generation BMW X6 will be introduced in two years

The current generation BMW X6 was introduced in 2007, but went on sale only a year later. It can be said that the X6 literally became the pioneer of the so-called coupé-SUV . At the end of last week, the first information appeared about the new second generation BMW X6 , which should be presented within two years.

It's no surprise that the new X6 will be based on the third-generation X5 , which was unexpectedly revealed on the website recently. This time, the BMW X6 with the 2015 model year will be more different from the classic X5 . A confidential source revealed to the UK 's Autocar : "We want to give the sports models a more individual look to differentiate them from the normal practical ones".

The new X6 will also grow taller than its predecessor, offering a new platform that will be lighter than the existing one. The Munich automaker will also save weight on the axles, as it will supply the X6 with the same axles as the current BMW 5 Series . The "leaner" X6s will ride on steel springs, while the more luxurious ones will be equipped with self-leveling air suspension (it can even out the car's ground clearance under load).

Engines are not yet clear, but there is speculation about a 3.0 -liter turbocharged petrol engine, a 4.4 -liter twin-turbo eight-cylinder, as well as a 3.0 -liter diesel unit with two or three turbos. There is also talk of an ActiveHybrid version – the hybrid system would consist of a turbocharged 3.0 liter petrol engine, an electric motor and lithium-ion batteries. All powertrains will likely be paired with an eight-speed automatic. The premiere should take place during 2014.
