The new generation Audi Q7 will be much lighter

The current generation Audi Q7 was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2006, becoming a sibling of the Volkswagen Touareg or Porsche Cayenne . The Ingolstadt carmaker is currently focusing on the next Q7 , which is why the first speculations or information about the second generation are appearing.

The new Q7 is an important model not only for Audi itself, but also for the German concern Volkswagen . And reason? The Q7 will become the first SUV to be built on the company's all- new MLB platform . Volkswagen wants to be competitive in the market and therefore has to share platforms as part of savings. Currently, a new platform for sports models is being developed, so not only for Porsche , but also for other sports cars of the concern – Audi R8 , the aforementioned 911 or the successor to the Lamborghini Gallardo .

In addition to the Audi Q7 , the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg, Porsche Cayenne and the planned Lamborghini Urus and Bentley Falcon will also have the new MLB platform. Thanks to the aforementioned chassis, the new Q7 will "lose" 400 kg of weight , so we can expect better driving characteristics, fuel consumption or reduced emissions. The use of a steel, aluminum and carbon fiber frame or lighter TSI and TDI power units could also reduce weight.

The appearance of the new Audi Q7 will be based on the CrossLane concept, which was exhibited at the Paris Motor Show last year. Looking at the success of the BMW X6 , the Ingolstadt brand decided to also approve the production of a coupe-SUV with the name Q8 . Of course, it will be the base from the Q7, but it will offer more sportier lines. There was no information about the premiere yet, but most media agree that it will take place at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show .
