Lexus IS 2014 – Introducing the new generation!

The first generation of the small sedan Lexus IS was introduced in 1998, then traditional modernizations took place, until finally in 2005 the second generation version entered the market. At the end of last year, the new generation began to be tested , and the first spy photos and unofficial information spread across the Internet. We finally got around to it, and just today the virtual debut of the new Lexus IS took place.

The world premiere will take place on January 15, 2013 at the Detroit Auto Show , but we in the editorial office can't wait for it to visit the Czech market. The design of the new generation IS is based on the LF-CC concept , specifically, it can be seen in the front fascia, which displays the aggressiveness, sporty spirit and stronger prestige of a compact sedan. The cabin is more oriented towards the rear and the side lines rise up to the tail lamps, which adds elegance and dynamism. On the exterior, we can also notice new front headlights with a design signature, under which there are daytime running lights in the shape of the letter L.

The interior will also offer an elegant design including great ergonomics. The new Lexus IS has been increased in width and the wheelbase has been extended, which is why there is more space on the back seats and in the luggage compartment. Thanks to the aforementioned wheelbase and thin front seats, the Lexus IS has the most knee room in the segment. Newly designed front seats, offering more comfort and improved lateral guidance, together with a steering wheel derived from the LFA supersport , create a sportier feel for the crew. The upholstered cabin boasts the latest technologies from the Japanese automaker, such as the latest HMI information system or a large analog clock. The new IS is the first ever Lexus to feature electrostatic switches on the center console. This means that the air conditioning or heating settings are controlled with the touch of a finger .

Engines have not been revealed yet, the automaker is apparently keeping that for Detroit. However, we already know that the North American market will be offered with a 2.5-liter and 3.5-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. A hybrid four-cylinder will be introduced later. The third generation of the Lexus IS in the F Sport package can be recognized by a set of larger wheels and a different front part, specifically the modification took place on the grille and bumper. Inside we find sports seats, carbon elements and an instrument panel also inspired by the LFA .

As I mentioned at the beginning, the official premiere will take place in almost five days in Detroit, and the new Lexus IS should go on sale this year.
