Skoda Octavia II

The first generation of the modern Skoda Octavia achieved the expected success, and therefore nothing prevented Skoda from deciding on the development and subsequent production of the second generation. It began production in 2004 after its debut at the Geneva Motor Show . Compared to the first generation, it had better power units and technology, a more modern design and robustness of the body.

Design

The new generation is based on its predecessor in terms of design. The basis of the appearance is still the front grille , which was transformed in the second generation from a rectangle to a trapezoid. The classic blinkers in the fenders have been integrated into the exterior mirrors. The rear lights have gained dominance, which is why they are now also located in the side parts of the car. With the following dimensions, it tries to compete with mid-range cars – length 4572 mm, width 1769 mm and height 1462 mm. The wheelbase was increased from 2512 to 2578 mm. The Liftback will offer a luggage compartment volume of 560 liters , which increases to 1350 liters after the rear seats are folded down.

Gear

The Octavia of the second generation was sold in three trim levels – Classic, Ambiente and Elegance (the same levels will also be found in the first generation after the facelift). Standard equipment includes electromechanical power steering, four airbags and ABS . On the other hand, for an additional fee, it is possible to purchase dual-zone air conditioning, ESP or perhaps parking and rain sensors. At the Paris Motor Show in 2006, the Octavia debuted with the luxurious Laurin&Klement equipment .

Other second generation derivatives

Later in 2004, the expected Octavia Combi was introduced, which was revealed together with another variant offering all-wheel drive . The Octavia Combi 4×4 has a diesel 1.9 TDI or a petrol 2.0 FSI under the hood. The practical station wagon had a basic volume of luggage space of 580 liters and after folding the seats it has a beautiful 1620 liters .

During 2007, the Octavia Combi Scout version was revealed, which is intended for lighter off-road conditions. It can be distinguished from a normal station wagon by the 17-inch wheels, the plastic lower part of the body and the increased ground clearance (180 mm) . The entire chassis has plastic covers that protect, for example, the engine or gearbox. Octavia Combi Scout will provide two power units – 2.0 PD TDI and 2.0 FSI . Both have an electronically controlled Haldex clutch, which distributes the torque between the axles according to current road conditions.

Octavia RS

The year 2005 – it was the right time for the presentation of the sharp Octavia RS, both in liftback and station wagon versions . For the sports model, it is possible to choose from five color shades – Race Blue, Yellow Sprint, Red Corrida, silver metallic and black pearl color . In the engine compartment, we find a 2.0 -liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an output of 147 kW and a torque of 280 Nm. Liftback Octavia RS accelerates to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 240 km/h ( station wagon – 7.5 seconds and 238 km/h). Later, the petrol unit was joined by a diesel 2.0 TDI with an output of 125 kW (from 2008 it was available with common-rail injection and a DSG transmission was also offered).

Motorization

Initially, the Czech brand installed these engines in the second generation Octavia – 1.4 MPI (55 kW) or 1.6 MPI (75 kW) and then 1.6 FSI (85 kW) or 2.0 FSI (110 kW) – both with direct injection. Diesel enthusiasts will welcome the 1.9 TDI-PD (77 kW) or 2.0 TDI-PD (103 kW).

After the upgrade in 2009, when the 1.6 FSI engine was replaced by the 1.4 TSI (90 kW) , the engine range was as follows:

Gas stations

1.2 TSI – 77 kW/175 Nm

1.4 MPI – 55 and 59 kW/126 and 132 Nm

1.4 TSI – 90 kW/200 Nm

Modernization (year 2009)

Four years after the debut of the second generation Octavia , modernization took place . In addition to the above-mentioned engines, it also brought cosmetic modifications to the front fascia, headlights, fenders and the interior. The Octavia RS version got new xenon lights, redesigned rear and front bumpers with LED daytime running lights and, of course, lost weight too – it "lost" 20 kg with the petrol engine and 15 kg with the diesel. Octavia Scout received only cosmetic changes, mainly in the area of plastic protectors. The Rosso Brunello shade and fog lights with a cornering system have been added to the offer. A year later, i.e. in 2010, a four-cylinder 1.2 TSI (77 kW) connected to a six-speed manual gearbox was added to the engine lineup. The modernized Octavia II can be recognized on the road primarily by the larger front headlights, in which the model name is engraved on the side.

The second generation says goodbye

After the production of the first generation Octavia ended in 2010, it was only a matter of time before the new Octavia Tour appeared on the market. And it really happened, the second generation replaced the first and is sold on our market in the Prima equipment level and with a single drive unit – 1.6 MPI (75 kW) . The second generation is still on sale, but it will soon be replaced by the third generation Octavia , which was presented on December 11, 2012 in Mladá Boleslav .
