Renault Scénic Cross – the return of the off-road RX4?

In 2000, the Renault car company introduced a derivative of the Mégane Scénic model called the RX4 , which was intended for lighter terrain. Compared to the classic variant, Mégane Scénic RX4 offered greater ground clearance, plastic protectors for the lower part of the car and, above all, all-wheel drive. The RX4 also stood out with a spare wheel on the fifth door.

Unfortunately, sales did not go according to the strategic plan, which is why the production of the first generation Scénic RX4 ended already in 2003. Then the French automaker tried again with the second generation – Scénic Conquest . It was revealed in 2007 at the Geneva Motor Show, but was intended only for certain markets. It's been about five years since the Conquest and Renault wants to give it a third try.

For this time, the "off-road" variant will come with the modernization of the French MPV , the premiere could take place next year at the exhibition center in Geneva. Again, we can expect a lot of plastic on the body, extended fenders or a raised chassis. Unfortunately, however, we will not get all-wheel drive and the new Scénic Cross will only offer a driven front axle . The engine and other information will be revealed probably at the debut in March 2013.
