2013 Mazda6 – First US Diesel and Race Special on the Way!

The Japanese brand Mazda announced at the North American premiere of the new "six" in Los Angeles that it is going to offer a diesel engine in the United States for the first time . In addition, the car company plans to enter the race track.

By the second half of 2013, a 2.2 -liter SKYACTIV-D four-cylinder diesel engine with a two-stage turbocharger and a really low compression ratio of 14:1 will appear under the hood of the Mazda 6 . The engine parameters have not been disclosed, but it can be expected to be similar to the European variant. This means a power of 148 hp and a torque of 380 Nm or 173 hp and 420 Nm. Until the diesel power unit arrives, the new "six" will be sold for the time being with a 2.5 -liter gasoline four-cylinder SKYACTIV-G , which offers 184 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.

Mazda will try to get support for diesel motorization in the US on the race track. More precisely, it intends to introduce a racing special built from the new flagship at the Rolex 24 endurance race, which takes place on January 26-27, 2013 in Daytona Beach, Florida. For the first time ever, a car with a diesel engine will enter the named race. According to unverified information, the engine should offer around 400 horsepower. We wonder if the diesel power unit will be successful on American soil. For now, we can view the illustration of the new racer in the gallery.
