The successor to the 159 will have Italian power units

At the end of last year, we reported that the premiere of the 4C will take place in Detroit . The American auto show started this week and everyone was impatiently waiting for the arrival of a new model with a snake in the emblem after a few years of hiatus. Unfortunately, looking for an Alfa Romeo stand was in vain, he was not to be found in Detroit.

For a long time, the CEO of the Fiat and Chrysler Group, Sergio Marchionne, has been saying that Alfa Romeo will return to the American market any day now. The year 2013 came and nothing happened in Detroit, so journalists interviewed him at the presentation of Jeep brands and others.

Asked at the outset why Alfa Romeo is not actually returning to the US at the beginning of this year as planned, Marchionne replied: “I will not return the brand to the United States of America until the long-delayed successor to the 159 , the Giulia, is perfect. I simply can't come to this market with a scumbag, it's simply not possible. I will not put an American engine in the planned Giulia. I don't want to offend my American friends, but only a power unit with a real Italian history is suitable for such a car".

Marchionne is said to be not the type of person who would put American engines into other different car companies. What about Lancia? In February 2011, he declared that he wanted to pay off the debts at Chrysler first. So far, he says, no one disputes the fact that America is full of good things, yet in Italy they are waiting for their Italian-Canadian CEO to finally swing for the return of Alfa Romeo to the American market .
