Opel showed an even more economical Astra CDTI

The recently introduced Corsa ecoFlex has set the bar in terms of consumption and emissions to a very high (so actually low) level. Some of its elements are now adopted by the larger Astra 1.6 CDTI , which consumes only 3.6 l/100 km with a power of 110 hp.

The main advantages of the diesel sixteen-cylinder engine are the improvement of the combustion process , the reduction of internal friction in the transmission system and, above all , the Closed loop system , which ensures the injection of the mixture into the combustion chambers at the right moment by means of piezoelectric sensors of the expansive pressure in the individual injectors. Visible at first sight are tires with lower rolling resistance , active slats in the radiator grille and ground clearance reduced by a few millimeters.

All these modifications lead to a reduction in consumption for the 110 hp version to 3.6 l/100 km (94 g CO2/km) and for the 136 hp version to 3.7 l/100 km (99 g CO2/km). At the same time, both values place the Astra in energy class A+ . In the press release, Opel further emphasizes the same on-board comfort as in the non-ecological versions, the offer of a sedan, a five-door hatchback and a station wagon, and the same basic price compared to its predecessor.
